10:30 AM – 12:00 PM | Emerging Technologies for RAS There’s more to RAS end markets than just 3/8-inch minus for hot mix asphalt (HMA). Executives from three of North America’s most scientifically advanced shingle processing companies showcase their technologies, which are growing demand for RAS products. Be the first to hear from these innovators on how they are pushing the integration of waste shingles to new end markets. Moderator: John Thomas, Managing Partner, WRS Speaker: Maure Creager, Manager, Circular Economy, CertainTeed Speaker: Steve Ragan, Director of Business Development, Redivius Speaker: Gord Johnson, Co-Founder, Northstar Clean Technologies |
1:00 PM – 1:45 PM | Evolving Practices to Meet Emerging Trends The co-host of the Pave It Black podcast serves as the National Asphalt Pavement Association’s expert on mix design, recycled materials used in asphalt, and Life Cycle Analysis for asphalt. This session will cover how the paving industry has adapted to ensure the successful incorporation of RAS into roads. NAPA’s leader in mix design supports a real-world view through proven scientific tests and incorporation into roads. Speaker: Richard Willis, PhD, Vice President for Engineering, Research, and Technology, National Asphalt Pavement Association |
1:45 PM – 2:30 PM | Sustainable Materials Management of Roofing Asphalt Materials Achieving a sustainable future for the asphalt roofing industry depends in part on engaging the principles of sustainable materials management (SMM) which offers a “…systemic approach to using and reusing materials more productively over their entire life cycles.” SMM practices are sought that will conserve resources, reduce landfill waste, and reduce costs while maintaining the quality performance of asphalt roofing products. The Asphalt Institute Foundation has recently supported two projects involving asphalt shingles at different stages of their life cycle – both intended to address those SMM practices. This presentation focuses on asphalt shingle recycling from the perspective of the Asphalt Institute’s Roofing Technical Advisory Committee and asphalt roofing sustainability research efforts in the Asphalt Institute Foundation. Speaker: Mike Anderson, PE, CAE, Director of Research and Laboratory Services, Asphalt Institute |
2:30 PM – 3:00 PM | How Balanced Mix Design Improves Economic and Engineering Advantages of RAS Learn about how the traditional methods of integrating RAS into roadways are changing. New performance testing methods are being used to validate mix designs. Learn how to build confidence in the engineering mix designs that achieve better and more sustainable roads using RAS. Speaker: Deb Mishra, Associate Professor, Oklahoma State University |
3:30 PM – 4:00 PM | How to Leverage Performance Testing for Market Development Join this session to learn how performance testing supports the use of RAS with your local HMA producer. Discover innovative methods for integrating RAS into road mix designs, ensuring successful industry adoption and approval from state and local authorities. Learn how these approaches lead to high-quality roads and stable market demand. Speaker: Tanya Nash, P.E., Director of Engineering, Asphalt Testing Solutions & Engineering |
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM | The What, Why, and How of Sustainability for Shingle Manufacturers Executives from North America’s largest roofing manufacturers will discuss the industry’s opportunities and goals surrounding sustainability.
